Fongshan Village: Fongshan literally means Rich in mountains, and indeed the village is well endowed with mountains and other natural attractions, from waterfalls to old-growth forests. Among the top sites in this area are the Shihpangu Waterfalls, Jiaolong Waterfall, Meihua Hill, Dadianyu Waterfall, Cianren Cave, Sianmeng Meadow, and Shimengu Valley. Accommodations and guide services are available at the village, and you can also enjoy the mouthwatering local produce, from wild fig jelly to sweet persimmons.

Laiji: Set along the meandering Alishan River, Laiji is best known for its river views, waterfalls, and traditional gazebos. The trail hike to the Tianshuei Waterfalls and Sibisibi cliffs, and cave exploring are the two main tourist routes. It's easy to get lost on the trail so it is best to bring a local guide. Restaurants and distinctive home stay inns have sprouted up in the village in recent years, and there are plenty of local handicrafts to choose from.

Local specialties: Aboriginal wood carving, hand-woven art, mountain tea

Getting there: Take Prov. Hwy 18 to Shihjhuo, turn right onto County Hwy 169 and follow to Fencihu, Taihe, Laiji, and Fongshan
